SFBC Google Bike Map

I put together that test I talked about here, and it didn’t work out so great - notice how the image is a bit fuzzy. You can see how it looks and performs here.

The problem is, I don’t believe there’s any way to improve the quality of the image/viewing through this technology solution. The details of why I believe that to be the case are boring and probably beyond my ability to explain it, anyway. I mean, you could probably build some gigantic kluge that would look great and work really well, but that could be a lot of work.

I do like the way this thing performs, though - it’s quick. It’s at least an order of magnitude (10 times) more responsive than the regular PDF map, and I even tried viewing the PDF map on a more-powerful desktop computer and got the same type of performance - sluggish. That’s not going to help get people on bikes.

I’d be curious what it’s possible to accomplish with annotating Google Maps and OpenCycleMaps.

…Just a shout-out to the Bike Pittsburgh crew for attempting the Goolge Maps-based bicycle map. I can’t say I’m a big fan, but it’s the right idea - try things out, see what you like, etc.
