Just So We’re Not Confused
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (’Environmentalist’?) and ‘greentech’ entrepreneur Shai Agassi, founder and chief executive of Better Place (who we profiled here), want to be perfectly clear about their intentions:
“What we’re envisioning here is the perfect blueprint for saving the car industry,†Mr. Agassi said recently, when he and Mr. Kennedy shared a podium with the mayors of San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland. The occasion was to announce Better Place’s latest green-car partnership and its first in the United States.
Whether walk, bike, and transit advocates and ‘green’ organizations like the Sierra Club line up behind these efforts to rescue, extend, and expand the auto industry remains to be seen, but none of us should look up 20 years from now and act surprised — these folks are being completely candid about their intentions. Whether we want to go along with their plan is up to us.
