Bike + Ferry

by Peter Smith

Bike + Ferry is something I’ve mentioned as being ’superb.’ A small puff piece in an Orlando newspaper takes the Golden Gate Bridge to task for being so awesome:

Most of us have seen the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco — or least pictures of it — but imagine the thrill of bicycling over it.

I did that very thing several years ago on a picture-postcard-perfect day.

I made my way down to Fisherman’s Wharf and rented a bicycle for several hours and followed the bike path to the bridge.

What a sight to behold on the way to the bridge and what a breathtaking view during the ride over it!

Once back on land, I followed the road down into Sausalito, where I shopped and had a fantastic lunch.

Then, I proceeded to the ferry dock in Sausalito and got on board with the bike in tow and rode the ferry back into San Francisco.

This time, I got to enjoy the view of the Golden Gate from the water.

It was a remarkable sight that I will never forget.

I still haven’t quite recovered from the time some out-of-town friends visited and we ended up going to Sausalito…by car. I had been outmaneuvered by a car-loving friend here in town. Drats!

Next time, I shant be so lackadaisical in my preparations.
