Gentrified Valencia
The Chronicle talks about the changed Valencia Street. They didn’t mention Google at all, even though most people I talk to consider it ‘obvious’ that it’s Google money that is changing Valencia. [The Google shuttle buses run throughout San Francisco, including the Mission, stopping on Valencia for pickup/drop-off.]
The article talks about Mission Street being ‘a couple blocks’ East of Valencia. I thought that must be a mistake, but it’s not. I guess I never really experience those smaller in-between streets except to briefly cross over them.
Valencia is, relatively speaking, a great place to ride your bike in the city. It’s somewhat stress-free - it seems cars behave a bit more through here, now - and there is lots going on, even if a good amount of that ‘going on’ is neon, yuppie (ahem, hipster) laundromats. With big pedestrian improvements coming, it’ll be interesting to see what the next ‘evolution’ of Valencia might bring.
I wish I’d caught this sooner, but I wanted to find out about the possibility of doing the car-parking-and-bike-lane flip, so we could have a physically-separated bike path in each direction on Valencia Street. I think it’s too late for that, but I’ll try to double-check.
